The combined entity would become the largest player in the Indian DTH space with a market share of 44 percent.
After merging their consumer mobile operations, Tata Group and Bharti Enterprises are now reportedly in talks to merge their DTH (direct to home) businesses.
The two companies are also exploring other options like merging Airtel DTH business with Tata Sky. The talks have entered due diligence stage and would take at least a couple of months before being finalised.
If the deal goes through, then the combined entity will be the largest player in the Indian DTH space with a market share of 44 percent. Tata Sky and Airtel DTH have a market share of 23 percent and 21 percent, respectively.
The Indian direct to home market has 61.2 million subscribers with Dish TV being the largest player with 25 percent market share.
Tata Group declined to comment on market speculation in response to CNBC-TV18 query, and Bharti Airtel said both groups are committed to exploring other areas of co-operation as reported in their press release. However, there is no additional proposal currently active or under consideration and information is speculative.
