No broadcaster doing social work here. Every broadcaster trying to loot money with the support of TRAI. No broadcaster running their business for loss.
They are buying cricket & movie rights with high cost due to competition.

Now Advantage DPO over Broadcaster after this selection. Income fixed for DPO, but not in the case of broadcaster. Eg. If no live cricket match on this day, then no revenue for Star Sports.
Not really, even before 2019 income was fixed for DPOs, for example on Tata Sky you had to subscribe to at least Rs 99 base pack. Now in new regime DPOs are paying a lot more to broadcasters -> Tata Sky payout to broadcasters up 40-50% | DreamDTH

If the Jio TV is legalized all these problems will be over once. The broadcasters need to be taught a lesson.

But still they have to pay money for broadcasting rights of IPL and other ICC tournament to BCCI..
The broadcasters get the revenue from the advertisers. The subscription revenue is somewhere around 35% of their total revenue. The rest comes from the advertisers. This new TRAI amendment is good IMO. If broadcasters want to remove the channels from the bouquets and increase the price, they can do it. But it will drive away the customers (who are the heart beat of the economy) slowly, which will hurt the broadcasters very badly.

The economy model should be such that they attract the consumers, thereby they increase their revenue from advertising.

Why do you think, the rights for India matches are so high when compared to other teams. It is just the sheer volume of the consumers.

The broadcasters should leverage the consumers and not burden them. If the production cost is increasing then they got to find ways to reduce the costs. It must be noted that big majority of the consumers are middle class and lower middle class who struggle to make both ends meet. Burdening them with increased TV subscription is down right wrong

TRAI is rubbish, it was not even a year when people had to recover from the atrocious tariff orders and now this has come. Nobody is happy, not broadcaster, distributor or customer.

I yearn for the olden days. Damn you TRAI!

I don't think customers are unhappy with the amendment. Majority in the forum have welcomed the move. Let's wait and see how things pan out post Mar 1, 2020

I don't think so, I have active in this forum for quite some time and almost everyone has negative opinion of this tariff order.

Now i can subscribe and unscribe any channel at any any time. I watch cricket match without any extra cost. That's only benefit after trai order
