The Draft Tariff Order mandates that a customer can add additional channels within the 100 SD channels stipulated. This would mean that a customer would be required to call the DPO's or logon to their website for making their selections on channels. There may be number of customers who are not technologically advanced or are in remote areas with limited or no access to internet service to log in and make the changes. It will be an inconvenience for customers to call the call centers to make such selections either from urban or rural areas as these calls take significant amount of time and come with a significant amount of cost. The customer will be forced to subscribe to numerous bouquets of different broadcasters, and at the same time end up subscribing to a-la-carte channels bringing the customers' subscription cost much higher than it would currently be. The cost of management of a-la-carte selection of channels by consumers is not only impossible to manage but it is also an operational nightmare causing a huge financial burden. Therefore, any cost associated with handling such calls from customers seeking a-la-carte channels should be charged back to the customers.
The requirement placed upon the DPOs to provide 90 days' prior notice for any modification(introduction or conversion or discontinuation or change of channels, whether FTA or pay or premium channels, is unreasonable and against optimal utilization of resources. This would mean that until the agreements are concluded between the parties, DPOs would have to wait for 90 days before they can launch any channels to the customers, thereby depriving them.

Airtel in 2016 response said SD basepack cost per month could reach Rs.2000/- and Max HD topup will increase from Rs.225 to Rs.1161
However Airtel had cooled down a bit and its current stand is unclear.

DTH operators appealed for price hike for viable or reduction for subscribers?


Airtel in 2016 response said SD basepack cost per month could reach Rs.2000/- and Max HD topup will increase from Rs.225 to Rs.1161
However Airtel had cooled down a bit and its current stand is unclear.

Tatasky opposed TRAI fixing minimum rate at 130/- as earlier rate was 150/-
Airtel wanted channel rates to be reduced from broadcaster's side also they opposed regulation/control of business margins.

So, these operators want base pack price hike from TRAI and price reduction from Broadcasters for their profits, not for consumers.
As we consumers want for base pack price reduction to Rs.100 (incl tax), bcoz technology developed for transmission of channels with low bandwidth.

Discovery networks is one of the parties appealing TRAI order but one of their consultant openly supports the new tariff when asked about Sony-TS dispute.
“Such incidences cause some disruption but this happens everywhere and not only in India. Both the parties are monopoly providers, so there is going to be some occasional friction which eventually will get resolved,” says RC Venketeish, consultant, Discovery’s DSport and former CEO of Dish TV. He further adds that the new tariff order from Trai, effective from January 1, 2019, could do away with such problems. “Under the new tariff order all channels are to be sold only on an à la carte basis, thereby eliminating issues,” he says.

Time to throw away dths and opt digital cable.
i don't know about your place, but here digital cable services are worst!
After10 years use of RDTV,I switched to Hathway Cable.
But within 8 months I moved back to DTH.
Most of the time in Hathway, it showed technical error on screen, when asked cable operator said it was due to rain, power-off in main hub,blah blah blah.
Who wants this type of services?
