Hi frnds,

Any idea when will more indian regional channels get into HD relay mode, can we expect in near future ? is it technically not feasible/infrastructure investments so high for broadcasters to scale up ?

Myself having invested on new 46" full HD LED, its a pain to see SD channels appear very poor (PQ appearing like cam print/pirated CD quality) :(

Eager to see tamil channels get into HD relay, like Star Vijay, puthuyugam etc, Iam sure friends of other languages would be eager to see their own

I know Sun/KTV are but, they are proprietory to their own DTH network

We only have around 30 HD channels though we have large number of channels(almost 800) after so many years. Much like our broadband connection speed which is always crawling & way behind from international standard. :'(
Also look like broadcasters are interested to launch only premium HD channels where regional channels doesn't fit. :dodgy
So it doesn't look like in near future may be it will take at-least 5 years from now for India to become HD ready. So till then we have to wait.:wall

force our Indian government to launch new high band satellite or permit dth to access foreign satellite.

But not only isro but also ses 8, nss 6 uses 36 mhz. We all know isro has some limitation about satellite carrying capacity but why they don't use higher bandwidth ?

I think many viewers having more than 40" TV screen are facing PQ/pixilation problems. It is general perception that that SD is good for TV screens upto say 32"-40" & then it requires HD to view better picture. So if DTH squeezes say 36 or more SD channels in a 36 Mhz TP then we keep believing that this is the standard.

May be DTH broadcasting/bit rate has something to do with PQ on bigger size TV screens as its one of the major variable for determining PQ. So there is a need to compare standards followed by Indian DTH with international standards.

I think Indian DTH are not following international standards for SD/HD transmission. There are reports suggesting that Indian DTH using almost half bit rate/bandwidth that is being used by international DTH. This may be a major cause for PQ problems being faced by viewers having screen sizes more than 32"-40" & results in PQ problems especially for SD viewers irrespetive of tech used.

I think SD is still prevalent in most part of the world & average Tv screen size in developed world is bigger than that in India. So if viewers having more than 40" Tv screens are also watching SD almost all over the world, do they face the same PQ problem as stated here?

may be it may take couple of years more .
first full country should get digitization then we can expect more HD channels.

I have seen SD picture quality on DTH in UK and USA. The PQ for SD channels as well as audio quality is far superior than what we get on our DTH here with our highly compressed channels. Further most of the SD channels there are broadcast in 16:9 aspect ratio, so the picture does not appear stretched. So yes, we are nowhere near the quality that customers abroad enjoy.

There are 2 main problems:

1) Less money with regional channels : Operating a HD channel requires serious money, only big networks, like Viacom18, Star, FOX, etc can afford it. Regional players are running hand-to-mouth when it comes to money. :s

2) Less Satellites in the Sky: Govt is to be blamed, as simple as that. :angry
As there are less sats., capacity is less, thus these DTH ops charge huge carriage fees, if any HD chnls wants to get added on DTH.
More space, less carriage fess.... easier it ll be for chnls to add on DTH.

Just give permission, within 2 months 10 satellites will arrive @91.5 east position, and solve Sundrct+ reliance space problems. :k :nj

All DTH Operators Have Space Crunch & Not Adding Demanded Channels
So No Broadcaster Will Take Risk of Launching Regional Channel in HD

Ya Shawl_who Bro

Foreign Satellites Are Ready To Come In India But Very Bad Government :no There Is No Work To Indian Government :s Only Making Notices And Send To DTHs Opreaters For Adding Their Rubbish Channels ':)(
