Don't know how many news channels will be enough!
After moving to ADTV, the only thing I miss the most is TravelXP HD. Hope they focus on the same instead of adding gazillions of news channels 🥲.

That is bcoz India has many languages and even in Hindi Speaking region we have so many states thus there r various news channels covering state, city, rural area stories.

I feel we as customer can complaint if an operator provides just news channels & does not add other popular channels from across genres but as one can see in airtel digital tv we r getting access to all the popular as well as so many other good FTA channels thus having more news. channels is not a matter of any concern rather these r also catering to large population who r interested in watching national or state news.

If u r missing any channel then write to the respective broadcaster, its channel head and distribution team requesting for addition of the channel. What i have noticed incase of Travel XP HD is that they wait for operator to themselves add the channel rather than paying carriage fee thus it takes longer time for addition. Even if either side takes initiative & carriage fee agreement is discussed then i believe it will b happening at somewhat lower price & negotiations would b taking longer time for this.

Actually u will see more local carriage fee channels on airtel digital tv than compared to Tata Play . 2 reasons for this,

- Tata Play is more selective in adding such channels as one can make out while airtel digital tv is more open to add these channels. I am not just talking about news channels but less popular FTA channels across genres. Tata Play still seems to b still tying to maintain a niche or premium appeal, this is why u won't even see them having multiple home channels across genres airing teleshopping ads. This has a major downside that not only Tata Play would b losing out on ad or carriage revenue, also the niche audience base which gave them great ARPU pre NTO & OTT era must b also eroding and above all the profit margins which they enjoyed thru long term agreements with broadcasters in pre NTO era is not possible now. This is why u will see Tata Play being most against the New NTO regulations. Airtel Digital TV on other hand is earning thru lots of money from carriage fee channels, ads on home channels etc. & i think airtel digital tv is also doing great in capturing the audience who r interested in going for hybrid box which is why airtel xstream boxes have gained immense popularity which again means helps in lowering the churn from premium segment.

- 2nd reason is that carriage fee for placement of channels on Tata Play must b somewhat higher than airtel digital tv thus again channels might b finding lot easier to launch on airtel digital tv rather than Tata Play. This has also helped in airtel digital tv gaining lead in rhe rural,,semi rural, semi urban markets / regions where local content is high in demand & thus even small broadcasters show more preference to be available on airtel digital tv.

Tata Play should make certain changes in its strategy to match up with changing landscape in DTH/ Media industry else i feel it will lose out on many key areas
