Discussion General Discussions, News & Updates On Indian TV Channels

Really hope TCM, MGM, Lumiere Movies, UTV World Movies, Boomerang / Toonami type of channels make comeback on TV but chances r minimal
In a normal world Star Movies Select would be Star Movies Classics, &Prive would be &Flix Classics and MN+ would be Movies Now Classics. There are two kinds of demand in the market for latest movies and old classics.

Meanwhile Cartoon Network should have a classics block airing old nostalgic cartoons at night.

Cartoon and pogo should air their old nostalgic cartoons. Now which cartoons they are telecasting are useless

How can Vh1 ruined this? Perrie's birthday is on 10th of July. They are airing her birthday bumps tomorrow. Really sad. :verysad2:

You do realise. Rights of these are brought along with OTT rights. There is the premium ad market. You won't find toothpaste and detergent ads endorsing these matches. But have expensive cars and diamonds endorsing these events. A decade ago before whole rebranding happened. We use to have F1 racing in the country itself.

How come smaller countries with smaller economy's makes profit from airing niche sports?

Niche events not generating revenues is nothing but a myth.

Buddy u r mixing up too many things. Different countries get rights at varying price depending on several factors, also subscription fee of channels have major difference. Premium brands do advertise but this revenue not even cover little of investment, all i can say is that for India niche sports on tv can work if there is large audience for it or people r ready to pay high subscription cost for it or IPL, BCCI, ICC telecast right price comes down Till then TV+OTT model is suited for such subscribers. Also like Eurosport or Sony broadcasters can try to balance out investment, revenue by opting for various niche or popular sports

Just like sports genre here too niche stuff is difficult for channel to survive on. Let alone classic films even critically acclaimed new films have limited viewers and come at relatively high cost. Nowadays with OTT broadcasters not able yo earn even by airing popular films. All we cam hope is that broadcasters launch SVOD channels for classic or critically acclaimed films on dth or cable platforms

Whatever! They wasted so much money on one content. Yet, their offerings are suffering as simple as that. One or two content doesn't bring money to channels. It's entire offering. Do you think GECs and Movies will acquire one content by paying thousands of crores than fill rest of the slots with repeats? That's a doom business model from start.

Before 2013, Star itself. They had diverse content. I don't recall them facing any losses. Than they took International football to premium HD channels.

If there are no takers. Do you think organisers would charge more for the events? Sony is doing fine. I don't recall loss from any content as customers here are most likely to buy seperate bouquets to get all sports channels bringing a seperate subscription revenue while Star has bundled sports channels with every other bouquets. They know no cricket = no subscribers.

Devs (FX on Hulu original show) is another latest show airing on Star World Premiere these days. Star/disney doing excellent job of bringing such shows on SWP HD despite hardly any ad revenue from it
They had aired many FX & HBO shows on Star World itself during the lockdown. None of them got any traction it seems. That's why they had gone back to airing Sitcoms and KWF all day now.....

They have excellent opportunities to broadcast shows which aren't streamed along with us in India...

Perks of airing shows with almost no promotion. How about use Nat Geo channels to promote English GECs? It works other way too. Meanwhile we have different sets of audience of Star World and Star World Premiere HD. I recall watching shows of ABC like The Goldbergs and This is Us air on Star World Premiere HD which earlier were on Star World and should've been there. While HBO and FX's shows belongs to the niche channel who was successful as a Premium GEC with shows airing as same day as US.

I must also add Star's English GEC airing strategy is completely flawled. Not that they lack good or new content. They don't promote or know how to air.

Disney International HD is treated as a kids channel since Star got owned by Disney. Fresh content is airing at 11 am which has to be a joke. No one except for kids watches tv at 11 am. It is an English GEC. Wouldn't expect much from them when most of their Sports channel are treated as saas bahu channels. With one of the shows name being Virat from Heart. 😂

Star World which should be a family channel with balanced sitcoms and family dramas. Airs talk shows which only Star's seems to enjoy. Jimmy Kimmel was doing fine. Somehow similar talk shows are working fine on Comedy Central and Zee Cafe. Star World does nothing good for it's American counterparts while Viacom's made NBC's shows famous in the country.

Star World Premiere HD which use to be worthy of it's name Premiere had lost it's charm. This channel would be still popular if they had atleast a weekend life of fresh shows. You call a channel Premiere than also keep it premium HD. Than air re-runs if 1980s here.
