IPL is not worth 5B$. BCCI taking advantage as it's the only big sporting event in India that has this success.
The ad revenue generated is not even close to average revenue generation.

There's a dispute going on between PCB & PTV Sports (host broadcaster) due to some issue regarding distribution of matches to Local Cable Operators. The Supreme Court had to intervene in this matter. Maybe the new HD Channel had a role to play.
