What happens to customer base when the biggest reason they actually subscribed to moves away to a different platform? Amazon even has a better and bigger bollywood and original collection.
If Amazon Prime wins IPL rights, then it will be a leader in Indian OTT market as Hotstar subscribers will decrease within a year.

Amazon Subscribers loves prime video because Ad Free movis and originals streaming, Hotstar from beginning onwards streaming most of contents sports with too many irritating ads it's known fact, so I think Amazon loyal Subscribers won't accept like Prime video becomes 2.0 version of Hotstar streaming with ads in India

Amazon subscribers buys Prime for free shipping, early access and discounts. Streaming is complimentary. Meanwhile Amazon won't be buying IPL to retain existing users. It is to attract new users who already are subscribed on a rival streaming platform. There are not as big because of sports. They need IPL to fill the gap.

ICC trophies lost charm as India knocks out on every time from 10 years. IPL is now most important for every network. Players performance in ICC trophies are lower than IPL.;)
IPL is a safe insurance policy for BCCI. Otherwise they would be in same boat as ICC. Meanwhile BCCI needs to find a broadcaster that actually knows how to sell a sport. Domestic cricket has potential to gain a big fan following. Only if Neo and Star actually knew how to promote it. Sony seems like the perfect home for BCCI.

That's why many people subscribed Amazon prime in India, also in social media so many people expecting IPL on prime video because they're thinking Amazon will not air ads, but fact is if Amazon acquires IPL streaming rights it will sure won't work in India, they don't have huge Subscribers like Hotstar platform
They have huge subscribers because 60% comes from mobile bundle. That's why their ARPU is less than $1 per month.

Hotstar lost 361 Cr in 2020.

While in 2021, loss widens to 600 Cr

Disney+ Hotstar doesn't know how to monetize it properly. The only reason Disney trying to bid heavily is because if they lose IPL rights they know they can't reach the forecast provided by Disney to Wall Street. Disney predicting to reach 230M to 260M subs by 2024.

Disney can forget this if they lose IPL. Wall Street won't treat them nicely, it will be bloodbath like what happened to Netflix last week.
