Only if they have PCM sound. Not for DD / DD+ audio.

I use volume control on the HT. No point having a HT if you set the STB to PCM.

OK, second option is if you have TS universal remote, programme the remote to control TV volume. Then you can set the STB at DD+ and use TS remote in univ mode to control TV volume.

How do I know, my remote is TS universal remote ? How to program if it is universal?
