Measat 3B Launch News & Updates

RE: Measat-3B launch date postponed

Arianespace’s already delayed launch of Measat 3b and its co-passenger Optus-10 satellite have been further impacted by the decision to send Optus-10 back from French Guiana to its manufacturers in California for examination.
No fresh date has been given for the launch of Measat-3b. One option quoted is to bring forward the availability of an Argentinean satellite, Arsat-1, because it is a smaller craft and can fit into the lower section of the Ariane’s rocket cargo bay. But industry sources suggest that, at best, this could not be done much before September, and by then Optus-10 could be back in position.
However, the bottom line in all this is that this will impact launches already planned for this summer and autumn. Ariane is contracted to launch G-Sat-15, StarOne C4, the already mentioned Arsat-1, Intelsat-30 and the giant Thor-7 all this year.

MEASAT-3b launch rescheduled to September

Satellite operator MEASAT has confirmed that the launch of the MEASAT-3b craft has been rescheduled to September 2014. MEASAT-3b will remain in storage at the European Spaceport, Kourou, French Guiana awaiting launch.
MEASAT-3b had previously been scheduled for launch on 6 June 2014 GFT. The postponement was called after Optus Networks informed launch service provider Arianespace that its OPTUS 10 satellite, one of the two payloads being carried by Arianespace flight VA218, originally scheduled for June 6, required additional verifications.
MEASAT-3b is designed to provide an additional 48 high powered Ku-band transponders at the 91.5°E orbital slot to expand Direct-To-Home and VSAT services across Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Australia. Co-located with MEASAT-3 and MEASAT-3a, the satellite will more than double MEASAT’s Ku-band capacity at 91.5°E creating one of the region’s most powerful and robust orbital locations.
