சென்னை மாநகரில், டிஜிட்டல் முறையில், கேபிள் ஒளிபரப்பை செய்ய வேண்டும் என, மத்திய தகவல் ஒளிபரப்புத் துறை நடவடிக்கை எடுத்தது. தமிழக அரசு கேபிள், "டிவி' நிறுவனத்துக்கு, டிஜிட்டல் உரிமம் கிடைக்கவில்லை.

இந்நிலையில், தனியார் கார்பரேட் நிறுவனத்தின், பிடியிலேயே கேபிள் ஒளிபரப்பு சென்றுவிடும் நிலை ஏற்பட்டது. தனியார் கார்பரேட் நிறுவனத்துடன், இணைய விரும்பாத, தமிழ்நாடு கேபிள் ஆபரேட்டர் சங்கத்தினர், 500 கேபிள் ஆபரேட்டர்கள் இணைந்து, கூட்டுறவு முறையில், தமிழ்நாடு கேபிள் கம்யூனிகேஷன் என்ற எம்.எஸ்.ஓ.,வை, அமைத்துள்ளனர்.
நவீன தொழில்நுட்ப வசதியுடன் துவங்கப்பட்டுள்ள எம்.எஸ்.ஓ., மூலம், கேபிள் ஆபரேட்டர்களுக்கு சிக்னல்களை வழங்கி, டிஜிட்டல் ஒளிபரப்பை வழங்குகின்றனர். இதற்கான அறிவிப்பு, சென்னையில் நேற்று நடைபெற்ற, தமிழ்நாடு கேபிள் ஆபரேட்டர்கள் சங்க கூட்டத்தில் வெளியிடப்பட்டது. இதுகுறித்து, சங்கத்தின் தலைவர் சகிலன் கூறியதாவது:
டிஜிட்டல் உரிமம் இல்லாமல், சென்னை மாநகரில், "டிவி' ஒளிபரப்பை செய்ய முடியாத நிலை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனால், ஆபரேட்டர்களை இணைந்து எம்.எஸ்.ஓ., அமைத்து, டிஜிட்டல் உரிமம் பெற்று ஒளிபரப்பை துவங்குகிறோம்.

இம்மாதம், 18ம் தேதி முதல், தமிழ்நாடு கேபிள் கம்யூனிகேஷன் மூலம், டிஜிட்டல் ஒளிபரப்பை சென்னையில் அளிக்கிறோம். முதல்கட்டமாக, 3.50 லட்சம் செட்-டாப் பாக்ஸ்களை சென்னை மாநகரில் வழங்குகிறோம்.

சென்னை நகர் முழுவதும் எங்களது ஒளிபரப்பு கிடைக்கும். செட்-டாப் பாக்ஸ் விலை, 1,350 ரூபாயிலிருந்து, 4,000 ரூபாய் வரை. ஒரு பகுதியில் வாங்கிய எங்களுடைய செட்-டாப் பாக்சை, மாநிலத்தின் எந்தப் பகுதியிலும் பயன்படுத்தலாம்.
கேபிள் தொழிலில், 23 ஆண்டுகளாக இருக்கும் ஆபரேட்டர்களை காப்பாற்றுவதற்காகவும், கடைகோடியில் இருக்கும் ஆபரேட்டர்களுக்கு சிக்னல் கிடைப்பதற்காகவும், எம்.எஸ்.ஓ.,வை துவங்கியுள்ளோம். அரசு கேபிள் நிறுவனத்துக்கோ, பிற நிறுவனங்களுக்கோ நாங்கள் எதிரி அல்ல. எங்களது முயற்சியை, தமிழக அரசு ஆதரிக்க வேண்டும்.

Another note is "STB once got can be used anywhere in the State of TN", only possible if the both LCO's joined in the Tamilnadu cable communication

This "Tamilnadu cable communication" looks like just an sister concern of "Thamizhaga Cable TV Operators General Welfare Association" that has support of politics, also it seems to have support of over 90% LCO's in the state. so the STB usage across TN seems possible.

Cable operators to launch new MSO company in Chennai

500 operators have joined the new initiative, which will be operated through Limited Liability Partnership.

As the Centre is delaying issuing licence to Tamil Nadu government owned Arasu Cable Corporation, cable operators in Chennai, one of the four metros which was mandated to implement cable digisation, have decided to launch their own Multi System Operator (MSO). This will be the first time in the country, claims the cable operators, who are planning to invest around Rs 40 crore and said their service through digitisation will start from January 18.

The new MSO is named as Tamil Nadu Cable Communications, said P Shakilan, state president, Thamizhaga Cable TV Operators. He added that 500 operators have joined the new initiative, which will be operated through Limited Liability Partnership (LLP).

He added, the new MSO has placed orders for set-up boxes to Chinese companies, before February 3.5 setup boxes will be delivered and before May, this year, 10 lakh connections will come under our network, claimed Shakilan. In total all the operators put together will invest around Rs 40 crore.

“We (the cable operators) have been in the industry for over 23 years now and it is our survival game. To protect our livelhihood, we decided to invest for our future,” he said.

When asked the idea behind starting a new MSO, he said, two major reasons are that the operators dont want their operations to go into the hands of a company which is monopoly and the second is confusion prevailing over implementation of digitisation in Chennai, which has been extending from October 31, 2011 due to court cases and other issue. The other major factor is whether Arasu Cable Corporation, the state-run MSO would get licence or not.

It may be noted recently Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) that the central or state government owned companies or undertakings should not be allowed to enter into the business of broadcasting and distribution of TV channels.

He said, the new MSO will have latest technology and would give signal to the local cable operators via digital boxes. He also claimed that the new company will be the first MSO which would give 500 channels in the country.

Really all the newspapers have this news. Hope this will bring New , better and quality service in cable tv after nearly 15 years.
but in the mean time, SCV surely will do something atleast to retain some % in SUN direct. (May be switch off analogue before pongal)

Most channels in SCV are re arranged, Kalignar Seithigal, isaiaruvi, chutti tv, Raj tv, new channels like POGO, NDTV which were never part of SCV analogue package are available now and that SCV STB ad is missing, is this really SCV or some other MSO already in place ??
