Chennai, Feb 6 (TruthDive): Polimer TV being suspended by TAM Media Research’s TAM ratings has the handiwork of some middle level general entertainment channels of Tamil and a group advocating ban on dubbed serials being aired. Polimer TV channel based in Chennai is accused of charges of tampering with monitoring meters installed in selected homes, says TAM sources.
TAM says that it has evidence and data to prove its charges against Polimer TV, and has served notice on the channel. Except for Sun, Vijay, Jaya and Raj TV, all other channels have been in the red. Polimer TV started showing a marked jump in TAM ratings, a criteria for advertisers to place advertisements. The fact was mainly that the richly produced Hindi serials and selection of the subjects that appealed to family audience in the State, were dubbed in Tamil was a hit.
Industry sources said the suspension of TAM ratings could harm Polimer TV as advertisers could keep the channel on hold since they do not have ratings data. Polimer TV has Rs 1.5 crore worth advertisements booked so far and chances are that they could now be held up.
While Polimer TV may dispute TAM’s move, it could affect the GEC channel. Polimer that started as a TV set manufacturer is the second largest MSO in Tamil Nadu after Sun’s SCV feeding to TV viewing homes across 10 districts of Tamil Nadu.
Polimer was founded by P.V. Kalyana Sundaram and currently runs 8 basic cable TV channel. The Tamil GEC channel has production facility in Chennai. It has a library of 350 movies on an exclusive basis, with about 8 hours of original content every day.
TAM was alleged by NDTV and DD that with 20 million TV households in the country, it installed meters in 8,000 homes and in the cities with a population of more than one lakh. The TAM agency has been charged of completely keeping out rural and smaller towns.
