RE: SES-9 Launching on July 15..!!

GSAT-11 is another satellite I am looking forward. The payloads will consists of 40 high power Ku, Ka band transponders. The satellite is aimed at providing advanced telecom and DTH services in our wonderful India. It can transmit data at a speed of 10 Gigabytes per second to the entire nation.
GSAT-11 spacecraft will provide 10 GHz of bandwidth, which will be equivalent to about 220 transponders of 36 MHz and its expected to be launched by mid 2016.
So surely this will be another milestone. But one key thing is it will be placed at 74° East. No existing DTH players are using this position but things can change by 2016.

81 transponders will not be be given to the airtel...Half will be taken by isro for some other Purposes

ISRO does not own the SES9. Actually ISRO took 75 transponders as lease on foreign satellites to meet the shortage caused by three failures in 2010.Currently ISRO has leased transponders from Intelsat, Measat-3, Intersputnik and SES America.

in the current scenario atleast 20tps enough for a dth service

The Indian media industry has already started leaving analog transmission behind and migrate to a new environment providing region-specific content, enhanced value-added services (VAS), as well as a substantially enhanced HD bouquet, driving the growth of HD services.

Globally, there are more than 6,000 communication transponders in space. The growth of transponder requirement in the next five years is predicted to be only moderate'about 8,000'with multimedia and high-definition television being the growth drivers.

There is a need for having a backup transponder capacity on a pooled basis in India, which means that a number of operators may share the cost of a back-up satellite, which can be used in catastrophic failures. Sharing infrastructure could be one of the key pillars for the growth of the industry. But such collaboration faces several technological challenges as all DTH service providers use different technologies and such collaboration can happen only with others using the same set-top-box technology.
In a move that could help overcome bandwidth crunch and reduce operational costs, DTH service providers, Sun Direct and Reliance Digital TV have started sharing their back-end infrastructure such as transponders to jointly beam the free-to-air (FTA) channels. Both Sun Direct and Reliance Digital are co-located on Measat-3.
The DTH operators are planning to ink a disaster-recovery contract under which transponder space will be shared to beam channels to subscribers in case of technical snags in the companies' respective satellites. Such collaboration could help overcome bandwidth scarcity besides lowering the costs for DTH players who are already saddled with huge losses as they still continue to subsidize acquisition of new customers.
ISRO is also expected to launch GSAT-11 which will carry 40 transponders in the Ku-band and Ka-band frequencies, which are three to six times more powerful than that used in existing communication satellites. This can provide bandwidth capacity equivalent to as much as 220 transponders by reusing the beams in multiple regions.

Actually SES works with ISRO to supplement capacity for the Indian market and has had a relationship with Antrix that goes back over a decade. SES capacity is used for the entire range of applications from DTH to enterprise VSAT, distance education, tele-medicine, e-governance, and DSNG applications.
DSNG means digital satellite news gathering. We are able to watch events and reporting from around the world, such as wars and natural disasters, unfold in real-time because of DSNG technology.
SES serves the Indian market with Ku band capacity on four of its satellites NSS 11 at 108.2 degree EL SES-7 also at 108.2 degree EL, NSS-6 at 95 degree EL, NSS-12 at 57 degree EL and in C band using NSS-12.They actually provide almost 40 transponders to Indian operators.
I hope this information will help you and others who are seeking it.
