With the way the new tariff regime is going, more and more people will give up traditional tv and opt for OTA services. One can watch all major channels through internet (Hotstar/Zee5/Sonyliv) by paying a much smaller amount. And more importantly it has the flexibility of choice.

In a nutshell, cable/DTH days are numbered after the new tariff.

Both can co-exist here. Everyone can't afford OTT or have access to fast internet. Satellite TV is much more affordable for general people and convenient option to access entertainment. OTT is mostly popular in urban centres and in that too with youth. In a family, elders will watch DTH or Cable and youngsters will catch with their content on OTT.

Industry insiders admit that neither multi-system operators nor cable operators under them are prepared to deal with 1.2 crore individual orders in this short time span even if viewers start applying now.

Mrinal Chatterjee of Bengal Broadband believes the move is actually anti-subscriber and will jack up the home entertainment budget. “An average cable home in Kolkata now pays Rs 250 for the daily entertainment dose that comprises Bengali entertainment and news channels, Hindi entertainment channels and a few kids’ channels. But, in the new regime, the basic free-to-air package itself will cost Rs 152 (inclusive of taxes) and the cost of watching all the other frequently viewed channels will be much more,” he said.

Hahaha! Cable operators are worried about being transparent regarding subscriber count and money they don't share with broadcasters or government. What were they doing since July when TRAI formally implemented the order, they deliberately did not make their system compliant with new regime and now trying to give vague justification. Anyways no matter what they say it will not be further postponed.

I just read on internet that LDPs of existing customers will be terminated & the remaining amount will be refunded & they'll be forced to opt for new packs from 29 Dec as TRAI's new rule doesn't exempt existing customers having LDPs.
Is it true?

where did you read this ?

Many places in India don't have access to high speed internet. Many Indian home also have no high speed internet.

So OTT will be limited to few users

I would replace many by almost all home. Hardly 1% has access to wired broadband at home and if someone thinks that wireless can handle video streaming they should also know the realworld fact that only 20% tower in India has fiber backhaul so india ranks last in 4G speed rank globally . So streaming on 4G is a laughing stock
