Just bcci right can't decide the future of a network. Sony have neither BCCI nor IPL rights. Still they are managing their sports channels very well.
Let JIO do the free ad based model, other should start premium model just like Airtel deactivate the free users and their ARPU is too good to survive with less subscribers.

Airtel maintains network quality with erecting more towers in urban areas to attract high paying premium subscribers, but here in OTT space premium content is king, which are mostly acquired by Netflix & Prime and Jio depends on mass media Cricket streaming for free.

Well there are articles that mention zee-sony and Disney-Star had behind the scenes understanding while acquiring ICC rights to outbid Viacom18. Yes, disney is cautious about not overspending but they require sports or other content to gain viewership for their TV Channels / OTT platforms so they would tak certain but fewer risks.

Star India has very large bouquet of TV Channels and very successful Disney+Hotstar OTT platform, they r in top 3 of ratings charts in most genres and in OTT space too they r quite ahead. Witg such massive business there r bound to be certain issues as TV + Digital Landscape sees constant transformation and intense competition + other things lead to evolving strategies

Anyways Disney will address all these issues as i have stated in previous posts and will continue to be leading broadcaster
Even Bob Iger will admit Disney+ Hotstar is not a successful OTT platform in any aspect but these Disney loyalists are so blind that they don’t how Hotstar attracted such a huge influx of new subscription post Disney+ launch.

When Disney+ used to boast about how quickly they achieved 100M subs there were 0 analysts that sounded the alarm. Everyone (Disney Execs, Journalists, Wall Street Analysts) is responsible for Disney stock hitting the lowest in 15 years.

And on top of that some comparing hotstar to netflix 😂😂… hotstar can only be compared to mx player at max..
Bob auger always dreams Disney+ to reach Netflix at any cost by increasing subscription price in USA😀

But the Fact is Jio is number one telecom company and that too in within months of launch they replaced airtel that was since ages there.. also in wired broadband segment jio became number one player and still airtel fiber is far behind.. also jio was the one which increased internet usage in country from 1 gb month to now 25 gb per day.. also jio was the one which brought down price of 1gb internet from 250 to 10 rupees.. thats called path breaking strategy…

You r looking into just the overall figures, go deep into it and u will see Airtel still leads in 4G segment and particularly has strong base in customer segments which pay more for the services/higher plans thus ARPU of Airtel is quite good...also their customer base in mass audience is also quite good just somwhat behind Jio but still large volume helps earn good revenue here even though ARPU is lower than what they get from urban/premium audience.

Lastly Jio may have caused disruption and brought prices lower, infact i even agree that pre 2016 prices of data/calls were little bit on higher side but remember Jio/Reliance is also here to do business and not charity....initially giving freebies to attract subscribers and thereby causung rival brand customer base go down surely lead to them bevoming No. 1 but this cannot.be a long term business strategy....i had said few years back too that wait a little soon Jio will also increase pricing + reduce freebies to arrive at sustainable business model and so it happened.

Airtel was able to sustain all the hardships bcoz they deployed a smart strategy of not going the Jio way and causing financial losses to them...instead they reduced prices by smaller margin ad gave some freebies thereby letting go off customers who were wanting all things for free so Airtel managed to earn decent revenue many premium and other regular customers stayed with them...some % of these regular customers may have used Jio as primary SIM and airtel as secondary but did not completely shift to Jio.

Later on as many people noticed that there were lot of issues being faced quality of service which Jio offered as compared to Airtel so they started shifting back and as news spread even many new subscribers chose airtel as 1st option.

Now that Jio has also somewhat started raising prices in telecom sector hence Airtel has also shown more improvements in ARPU / Revenue thru similar increase in plan/service charges. If Jio increases prices further i feel more people will shift to Airtel.

Just like this Disney-Star will be able to counter Viacom18/Jio if they take right decisions which i am sure they would and already started work on the same sinve last 6 months or so

Disney Made Big Mistake In IPL Rights
Should Have Gone For OTT Too!

Now Paying Price For It!

When I Said (Dec-2022), IPL 2023 Will Be Free On JioCinema, Many Laughed At Me!

Anna sure IPL would have been a big boost to bringing more viewers to Disney+Hotstar platform but the pricing went so high that i believe they took right decision of not spending such exorbitant amount for just these rights as it would have been really extremely difficult if not impossible to recover.

Bro, do u think they will not work out a strategy as to how to earn revenue while maintaining required balance in catering to different audience base. These all things will be brainstormed and by the way there is no point comparing Netflix to any OTT platform as it largely caters to premium audience while others mainly cater to mass audience with premium base being lower and above all platforms like Disney+Hotsyar drew huge audience across segments thru sports but now they will redraw the business model as per current requirements.

Now even Netflix is trying to reach to mass audience by beinging prices of plans lower and having mobile only plans...there r even news reports which suggested that they will come up with Freemium Ad Supported plans very soon to further expand its reach in mass audience base.

In India both volume (mass audience base with not so high ARPU) and focused approach (premium audience with Higher ARPU) is needed for major OTT platforms to succeed.

I think- all viacom 18 sports channels soon be 22.42 - within 1 year and also jio cinema India home matches will be paid service.
Just like JIO gave us free 4g for so many days and now the price had increased, now 5g is also free

Dino bhai from your above post i got your point and many like you write same thing who are just Jio Haters and particularly ambani haters.. what did you write to prove your point that you accept price was little bit on higher side pre 2016 what (little bit) cant you understand the difference between 250 rupees vs 10 rupees for 1 gb??? Jio is the only service which disrupted telecom sector which was taken by idea, airtel, vodafone which all were looting customers.. same was with hotstar which was looting us all.. how come now hotstar providing free streaming of asia cup and all important world cup??? In all those 20 years why cant they ever shown even one match for free.. matlab jio free offer kare isme bhi problem hai.. achchaa free hai toh lifetime kyn free nhn hai isme bhi jio ko gaai denge.. i mean this is somewhat what some of us mentality is.. i am proud to be Indian 🇮🇳 and our indian brand outbid othera to get brodcasting rights which was which foreign brand star.. your words reminded me of covid vaccine times when congress ppl wantedd to buy super expensive pfizer vaccine and gave all sorts of abuses to indian vaccine..
