Upscaling is the automatic conversion of a low resolution image or video to high definition resolution. Since we all know that the SD image has lesser no. of pixels than HD, filling up a HDTV screen with SD image/ video can lead to resolution issues. And obviously, the result gets worse as the screen size increases. It is like trying to fill up the orange screen with the red picture:

FYI, all HD TV Sets (HD, Full HD and all that stuffs included) have an in-built upscaling technology. It is usually done by a combination of in-built video scaler- which is a combination of hardware & algorithm (software). How else would be able to see SD images full-screen on a HDTV?

So, how to get relatively better results?

1. Better the hardware & algorithm (software) of the TV, better are the results. Always try to go for the latest available model for any brand.
2. Get an HDMI cable, it will prevent signal loss/ noise from STB to TV.
3. It will also depend on the compression technology used & quality of STB provided by the DTH/ Cable operator.

Cheers!
I need a clarification about TV Software, could you clarify the same?
LG releases Software Updates which includes Device Drivers & Firmware Updates for specific models once in three months.does the PQ improves in each & every update or is it ment for adding new features only?

The software updates are released by other manufacturers as well. These maybe for:

• Improved information in the service menu.
• Better Layout Design of the service menu.
• Improved AV quality and stability for HD channels (on HDMI).
• Improved AV and stability for SD channels.
• Improved scanning/ tuning of channels.
• Improved security features or apps updates for Smart TVs.
• Resolve problems with the older version of software.

So, it may or may not improve the PQ depending on what the update is intended to do. However, it is recommended to update your software as and when the manufacturer releases an update. :tup

Cheers!
