MIB issues 5 new TV channel licenses and cancels 3 TV channel licenses during July 2022

Number of private satellite TV channels increased to 895 at the end of July 2022, up from 893 at the end of June 2022.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) issued 5 new TV channel licenses and accepted the surrender request/cancelled 3 TV channel licenses during July 2022, according to its monthly summary for the cabinet.

As per the Ministry, the total number of private satellite TV channels for uplinking and downlinking in India as of 31st July 2022 stood at 895. The total number of private satellite TV channels stood at 893 in the preceding month.

In June 2022, the Ministry granted 2 new permissions, accepted the surrender request/cancelled 6 TV channels during the month. In May 2022, the Ministry accepted the surrender request of 5 TV channel licenses, whereas, in April 2022, the Ministry cancelled/surrendered 1 TV channel license.

In July 2022, the Ministry also signed six (06) new grant of permission agreements (GOPAs) and renewed eleven (11) GOPAs during the month.
