60 Hz on new STB 2222

I am using a tv which supports both 50 and 60....And no problem at 50 Hz ...

Technician came with the 2222 Box and whatever he tried, it was not working at 60Hz. There is option to change to 60Hz but it does not output 60Hz signals. Later he called his office and told that FW has to be updated to work with NTSC TVs and took the box with him. Expected to get it back in 3 days.

So, if you have a TV that supports only 60Hz, make sure that they update the SW before they come. The software will not be available with all the offices. Looks like they have it in nodal office alone.

What is the difference between 60 Hz and 50 Hz

It is the frames per seconds (scan frequency) of the picture. Typically PAL signals are processed at 50Hz and NTSC signals are processed at 60Hz. TVs made for USA supports 60Hz or multiple of 60Hz as they use NTSC system there. Many TVs come with multi-system (PAL, SECAM and NTSC) and they work worldwide.

This is not related to electric supply frequency. (Again in India power supply is 230V/50Hz and in US 110V/60hz).

No of frames per sec in American system is 30 and 25 in European system (India follows). And in interlaced scanning each frame is scanned twice in a sec by interlaced method.so field frequency is 60,50 respectively double the frames per sec.It is purposefully made equal to supply frequency so that any supply interference will produce stationary patterns and will not be too distracting.Otherwise moving patterns will appear and will be annoying....
