Disney/Star have toughtime to renew IPL, BCCI & ICC digital/TV rights due to Ambani's game plan with Uday Sankar and Amazon money power with Sony-Zee combine.
It's Good to see if Uday Shankar lead the Viacom in front of Star/Disney India President K Madhavan in coming days, Because K Madhavan 2.0 Version of Uday Shankar.

Disney is the #1 entertainment company in the world. They are strongest in every genre they are present in India. The Walt Disney Company would be more than happy to give the resources to Star to acquire IPL. They need strong assets for Hotstar.
True.

But they are losing money every year because of overpaid IPL rights. They are not able to acquire Premium Regional Content like SonyLIV & Hotstar.

Prime Video has 25M+ subs in India while SonyLIV has 17M+ subs. Both grew without major sports rights.

Hotstar had a loss of 360 Cr in FY 20 and 620 Cr in FY 21. If they couldn't monetize it properly with 44M subs when they paid just 16,000 Cr in 2015. Will they be able to revert the loss when they would have to bid 35,000-40,000 Cr ?

Really? SonyLIV, the OTT with the most diverse selection of sports? It grew without sporting rights?! Now Prime Video also has sports (New Zealand Cricket).
People literally got Sony Liv to stream NBA and Champions League. TV shows were free. Originals didn't exist back than.

Without major sports rights. There is a difference.

So you're telling me all those niche sports were the result of 17M+ subs?

SonyLIV Originals since 2019 + a mix of sports + soaps from their linear channels brought bunch of the subscription.

Hotstar needs those funds to bid for Premium content like Scam or Family Man. They can't do that if they spend 35,000-40,000 Cr on a single property.

I think it'd be good even for IPL that the broadcast rights stays within 20,000 Cr. This is because 35-40000 Cr. is a huge cost and given the saturation of this market things will only go downhill. The other option could be the splitting of rights like PL does in the UK with Sky and BT. I doubt if a single player would want to spend this humongous amount.
