Major Cable network Kerala Vision in kerala is pushing their local channels in FTA base pack and counting them. Their base pack 1 for 150 rupees don't have any Malayalam FTA except Kerala Vision (their satellite channel). They are pushing their local channels including info and count as 100. This is to make sure that customers have to shell out 170 and go for their next level base pack to get Malayalam FTA.
Is this against the rule? How can a local channel and info channel counted?

sach 1979 bro All cable operators have thier own pack which is worst than original today available pack, link is available on site thay will just start that pack for every body as price will be same as todays pack but many channels missing then when customers start complaning they will bring form for changing pack their suggestive pack link is below and that is 100% going to happen

Thanks. Although as I said earlier, for my parents, it is impossible to visit website/app and select. Also packs offerred by Den is waste for them. By the way this is not the dilemma for my parents only, it is same with most of our neighbours.

Hello Everyone! Newbie here...

We must give credit to TRAI for standing up to this crony capitalism. It's no surprise to see Tata Sky doing everything in its power to delay the new TRAI Tariff order. People seem to be focusing on that Rs 130/- NCF for 100 FTA channels (most of them useless) but it must be highlighted that TRAI has set that amount as the maximum limit. The MSOs and distribution platform operators are free to bring that amount under 100/- if they really wished to compete with others.

They very fact that all MSOs and DPOs have kept the NCF at Rs. 130/-, clearly shows their reluctance to the new Tariff order. If you look at the a la carte rates of the channels on TataSky website, even a fool will realize that it makes no sense to go for that. Thus, the customers are forced to opt for bouquets (designed by DPOs like Tata Sky) at discounted rates to see only a few of their required channels. The whole purpose of making the channels available on a la carte basis does not serve the purpose at all.

Earlier, the cable networks and DTH operators would black out channels at will from Broadcasters if they were not agreeing with their financial terms. In the new Tariff Order, the same nonsense will never be repeated. Earlier the whole power of the market was in the hands of Multi system Operators and Distributed platform operators.

Suddenly, the new tariff order has taken all that power from MSOs and DPOs. It’s no surprise to see them fight till death. All the broadcasters have been prompt to announce their channel pricing after the Supreme Court verdict. But now it is only an issue with MSOs and DPOs.

Thankfully, most of the MSOs and DPOs have started implementing the Tariff order except the shameless TataSky who is still trying to delay the implementation.

The hearing on 23rd January in Delhi Court is the key. The court has to direct Tata Sky to start implementing the order with immediate effect. TRAI on its part should also plead the same.

Here’s hoping that TRAI prevails in this legal battle.

IF TRAI new tariff order is not applicable to Jio TV app, Vodafone TV app, Airtel TV app, then i feel Jio Giga TV service also be out of TRAI tariff order.

@Anish Pai bhai this is to inform you that in Kolkata specially in our jurisdiction to operate LCO & MSO licenses JIO has asked us ( with others DPO also ) to Port or Sale 52% of the Company Stake to them so that they can start and operate their GF TV service asap and also added in the discussion that JIO have planned their Channel Bouquets as follows:-
1.Package 1 - Rs. 300/-(with all SD without Sports)
2.Package 2 - Rs. 400/- (with all SD + all Sports)
3.Package 3 - Rs. 500/- (with all HD without Sports)
4.Package 4 - Rs. 650/- (with all HD+ all Sports)
5.Package 5 - Rs. 700/- (with all SD+ all HD+Non Stop Broadband services).
Till these all packages are under Observation with discussion and Permissions from Selective Authority. ................No........They have not mentioned about any NCF regarding TRAI new regime & HDAF.......

its better to take package 5 if they are not including ncf...

these are like the fake Jio tariffs that used to come before the 4g launch. I don't think it's possible to offer all SD pay channels at Rs 300. If it was, then even DTH would have offered it. It will cost around Rs 500-600 plus NCF to offer all non-sports SD channels.

Keep in mind one caveat though. At the moment the "power" is shifted to the broadcasters since the 15% discount cap on bouquets is not enforced by TRAI. Ideally consumer should be the king. This will hopefully happen if TRAI indeed decides to apply the regulations in its own tariff order in full or consumers are smart in choosing their channels which will force the competitive market to regulate itself. Interesting times ahead! :)
