MIB grants satellite TV channel license to Reverb, iCast, and 2 others for Viacom18

Viacom18 currently holds 6 TV channel licenses with dummy names. MIB recently issued 4 new satellite TV channel licenses to the broadcaster.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) in the past months has granted 4 new satellite TV channel licenses to Viacom18 namely Reverb, iCast, Hawa Mahal, and Treble.

‘Reverb’ has been granted by the Ministry in the ‘Non-News and Current Affairs’ category with uplinking and downlinking permission. The channel will operate from foreign satellite Intelsat-20 with permission to operate in English, Hindi, and all Indian scheduled language.

‘iCast’ has been granted by the Ministry in the ‘Non-News and Current Affairs’ with permission to operate in Hindi, English, and all Indian scheduled language. The channel will also operate from foreign satellite Intelsat-20 with permission for both uplinking and downlinking.

‘Treble’ has been granted by the Ministry in the ‘Non-News and Current Affairs’ category and will operate from foreign satellite Intelsat-20. The channel has both uplinking and downlinking permission and is permitted to operate in Hindi, English, and all Indian scheduled language.

‘Hawa Mahal’ will also operate from foreign satellite Intelsat-20 with permission for both uplinking and downlinking. The channel is permitted to operate in Hindi, English, and all Indian scheduled language and granted in the ‘Non-News and Current Affairs’ category.

For the unversed, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on 25th March 2019 granted Viacom18 9 fresh satellite TV channel licenses namely BDM, Connected, Eco-Lution, Hawa Mahal, IMIX, My Tube, Pick-A-Trick, Story City, and Treble.

Viacom18 on 6th February 2020 surrendered 5 of those satellite TV channel licenses namely Hawa Mahal, IMIX, My Tube, Story City, and Treble. The company later on 26th February 2021 surrendered another 3 of those satellite TV channel licenses namely Connected, Eco-Lution, and Pick-A-Trick.

The Ministry later on 10th June 2021 granted Viacom18 4 fresh satellite TV channel licenses namely Pick-A-Trick, My Cam, Eco-Lution, and Connected. Two of them were recently renamed to make way for Sports18 and Sports18 HD.

As of today, Viacom18 has multiple dummy TV channel licenses namely Reverb, Treble, iCast, My Cam, Hawa Mahal, and Eco-Lution as per the Ministry’s official repository of permitted satellite TV channels.

The date of grant of permission for these licenses isn’t available publicly from the Ministry’s side as of now.
