Arasu cable to disconnect MEDIAPRO channels

FYI , Cable TV business cannot be nationalized by State Govt....As all TV related business is comes under central govt - MIB...

Who said?? As per the 44th amendment of the Indian Constitution this is very well possible.

"In view of the special position sought to be given to fundamental rights, the right to property, which has been the occasion for more than one amendment of the Constitution, would cease to be a fundamental right and become only a legal right."

The Tamil Nadu state Government very well can nationalize the MSO business by passing a law in the state assembly to that effect and get Governors approval for the same and can challenge anyone in court who attempts to stop it as this is definitely legal.

If the TN Assembly passes a law tomorrow on this behalf then its just done and no-one can stop.

It gives Govt the right to nationalize which is under their control . Road transport is under State govt , and When M. Karunanithi was the Chief Minister he nationalized Transport companies.

And in central Indra Gandhi nationalized Banks & Air Transport.

But , few of the services are not in state govt's control , such as Banks , Air Transport , Telecom & Broadcast...They cannot touch those services.

As per your argument , TN govt can pass a law in assembly and get Governor approval :) , so can TN can nationalize Banks , Air Transport and Telecom toooooooooo?!!!!

Answer is simple legally they cannot nationalize cable TV business. But you will not accept that :)

If u feel SCV is monopoly and want to oppose them , you can support Hathway or JAK or TCCL . Arasu is not anyday a safe venture as it may turn ugly based on govt running it.

One basic ques - Why other private players not able to succeed now . Both State& Centre are not SCV favorable now So, we can't have a comment saying SCV is trying to control them ..

Whom to support, except Arasu no-one seems to be strong enough to bring changes.

Hathway: This MSO is no existent in Tamilnadu.

Ref: Hathway unplugs from Chenna''s cable TV market | Business Standard

JAK: Though it gave an impossible and one of the best offers in India (Rs 1,500 for both STB & 1 Year DAS package containing all pay channels) wasn't able to convince the LCO's, though people wanted LCO's didn't want to move out of their current MSO.

Ref: JAK STB + Platinum package for 1 year at Rs 1500.

TCCL: Has one of the best DAS package in India which can offer most pay channels within Rs 185 wasn't able to convince the LCO's, though people wanted LCO's didn't want to move out of their current MSO.

SCV which has almost 90% of Chennai's Cable TV control not ready to both minimize the package cost and not ready to move to DAS either, also removes popular channels (sometimes most channels except Sun network) without notice due to some competition issue. Any complain to LCO seems to fall into deaf ears and no-one knows even if they reach SCV or not as LCO's seem to just don't care.

Also all of the LCO's are stubborn and wont move to any other MSO no matter what has left the people with no choice other than to hope for the powerful alternative which is Arasu which gives almost all the channels at Rs 70 and also seem to acquire DAS license soon, so even if DAS comes Arasu's package wont exceed Rs 100 - 150 with all the popular pay channels.

As we know people always hope for the best and right at the moment Arasu promises the best without choice so Arasu seems to be the only hope.

LCO's cannot move just like that because of the huge investment they made. And LCO's decide on their profitability and their customer needs. Most of the customers need is very simple - Most of the popular Tamil channels - Low & Middle class people never bothered about English Movies or Sports or English News or Music channels , if they have that in their package they are happy but not mandatory according to them. And , they are huge in numbers.

You are taking about TCCL & JAK, though they are good in upper packages , they are lagging basic needs. They are missing atleast Adhithya & Chutti TV which are leading in that genre..JAK Do you think any LCO's will be ready to take a risk without these channels?!

How you are saying DAS package of Arasu will not exceed 100-150 for pay channels? In analog broadcasters cannot get the right subscription details , so they fix the price based on assumptions. But in DAS that cannot be done.

You are asking why SCV is not moving to DAS?!!! If somebody is still give analog how SCV will move to DAS? If you are an MSO will you move and to be ready to lose customers , when there is no clarity on DAS?!

Agreed SCV is trying to be monopoly. Atleast they are not forcing the LCOs to join them. There can't be any monopoly unless they have support of LCOs.If they have some good alternatives, they will surely jump to another MSO.
What's the reason behind LCO's not joining any other MSO's or mainly Arasu.

Also, you want to get the benefits of Arasu who is trying to blackmail LCO which is like benefitting from other's sorrow.

Need to know the exact situation of LCO and know their views as why they don't like to join Arasu.

I'm not for/against Arasu.

I want DAS to be completed asap in Chennai as it is the future. It feels annoying to see it completed in many Tier 2 cities in North but not in
Chennai.

Already DAS is being implemented in India after 10 yrs.

And i feel Arasu is the main culprit behind the delay when TRAI rule clearly says it can't be run by a State Govt.
If they need it, they should have approached Central govt for modification of rule thru Assembly or raised the issue for support for many parties.

That rule won't be changed even if BJP comes to power.
