HDMI Black level getting grayed out due to tata sky HD STB

I have been using tata sky HD STB Huwaie make as well as HD DVR of Pace make. one thing I observed is that the tata sky picture looks whitish on my 48 inch samsumg full HD TV (48H5100) also the option of HDMI black level is grayed out or locked. this was not the case with my reliance HD STB. the colours of hair looks whitish black / gray. Has tata sky compromised on stb quality?
