Jayasurya to play a local goon in a gangster film...

Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala famous for its Pooram, is also often in the news for 'friendship crimes; crimes committed for the sake of friendship.'
Now, actor-director Sajid Yahiya is gearing up to bring out a film, featuring some such real-life incidents. The movie, which will start rolling in May, has Jayasurya in the lead and is scripted by musician Ratheesh Vega.

The director says, "The movie will be an action flick, based on a string of real-life incidents involving gangsters. Thrissur district has a high incidence of crimes in the name of friendships and brotherhood, and that is the kind of 'gundagardi' that will be featured in our movie."
After his first film IDI, Sajid is joining hands with Jayasurya again for this movie. "The project has Jayasurya playing a local goon, and the actor has just given a thumbs up for the film." Sajid says.

Interestingly, the film will also extensively feature the five major events of Thrissur Pooram, which will be shot live in its next season. "From the first ritual of Kodiyettam to the last one, Upacharam Cholli Piriyal, the Pooram will have a predominant presence in the movie," Sajid says. The team has not yet decided on the rest of the cast and crew.

Trisha to make her M-wood debut as Nivin’s heroine...

Ever since Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya became a massive hit in Kerala, movie lovers have been eagerly waiting for southern diva, Trisha to make her debut in Malayalam.
After years of speculation, the actress is finally making an entry into Mollywood, and that too with none other than Nivin Pauly!

It looks like the actress has chosen her debut project carefully as it will be helmed by ace director Shyamaprasad. The director says, "The movie will be a musical love story and titled Hey Jude, taking inspiration from the famous song by The Beatles written by Paul McCartney."
Hey Jude will go on floors next year. "The story happens in Mangalore and will be shot extensively there," he adds.

Shyamaprasad is known for his films that depict the complexity of relationships — be it Ivide, Arike or Ore Kadal. The song Hey Jude is said to have evolved from Hey Jules written by McCartney to console John Lennon's son Julian after his parents decided to part ways. Well! Can we expect yet another emotional romantic tale, this time with Trisha and Nivin in the lead.

Pulimurugan Box Office: Beats Sarrainodu To Become The Fourth Highest South Indian Grosser Of 2016!

achieved something, which no other Malayalam film has had in the recent times. The film has now turned out to be one of the biggest South Indian hits of this year.

Reportedly, the film has now crossed the 130-Crore mark and the movie has already beaten the lifetime collection records of Allu Arjun starrer Sarrainodu, which was released early, this year.

According to reports, Sarrainodu had made a worldwide collection of 127 Crores and Pulimurugan has crossed that mark easily. It is to be noted that Pulimurugan is still doing some serious business in many centres.

Now, the movie has become the fourth highest grosser of 2016, among the South Indian films, released in the year, so far. Vijay starrer Theri, Rajinikanth's Kabali and Junior NTR-Mohanlal team's Janatha Garage are the only movies ahead of Pulimurugan.

Rajinikanth's Kabali made a gross collection of about 350 Crores and by all chances, the movie would remain as the highest grosser of the year. Vijay's Theri made a gross collection of 175 Crores.

Janatha Garage, which had Mohanlal in an important role, fetched 135 Crores in total. Now, we have to wait and see whether Pulimurugan would break the records of Janatha Garage to become the third highest grossing South Indian film of 2016.

Marupadi Movie Review...

Review:
With its fair share of pitfalls and loopholes, our legal justice system has been existing in our midst, to make important decisions on people lives, for long. When women are at its receiving end, the system gets a lot more skewed. Marupadi, a film by V M Vinu, typifies such a frightful situation, demanding some scary answers and solutions if any.

Sarah (Bhamaaa), an orphan, is happily married to banker Aby (Rahman) and has a teenaged daughter Riya (Nayanthara). A career-crisis situation lands the family in Kolkata, where an unexpected turn of events pushes them into a couple of horrendous experiences.

Marupadi is a relevant film, asking the right questions that ring aloud in the minds of most women and parents. It has a storyline that the viewers can sympathize with, and it acknowledges uncomfortable truths about the systems meant to protect us. At some point in time, we might also have come across such instances in real life. All that varies is probably, the degree of harassment for the people at its mercy and yes, the film has its intentions right.

The points at which the movie falters are the presentation and that too, with a handful of ‘cringe worthy’ moments, as opposed to its trailer that gives away the impression that it is a thriller. For instance, the interview scene of the first half - the director’s intention was bringing on some light moments and laughter, but it ends up being too silly and distasteful. Similarly, one can hardly digest the manner in which the ‘gentlemanly’ Aby behaves with Sarah in the car, the first time they meet after growing up. There are many moments at which you also feel that the pairing of Rahman and Bhamaa is a bit too odd and awkward. In the intense second half that mostly holds up, what stands out unpleasantly is a long, important speech. It presents some valid points, no doubt, but the heavy dose of drama distracts the audience to the extent that the focus changes to how theatrical it might get.

Those among the audience who love family drama might put up with it, but definitely not the crowd that’s looking for an edge-of-the seat thriller.
