For getting DD sound HDMI port is better or optical port?

It's not a question of one being better than the other. Optical port carries only audio whereas HDMI is a multimedia port capable of carrying not only DD or other audio streams but also video in various types of format, thus providing the convenience of a versatile single port wiring between equipment such as HT, STB and TV. Further, optical port is limited to carry compressed 5.1/7.1 digital audio whereas HDMI has much higher bandwidth and can carry lossless audio formats like Dolby TruHD and DTS HD.

I am not sure about normal HD box, but HD PVR and HD Transfer boxes have optical ports.
